The Faith International Child Care Center was established by Ms. Fatmata J. Kaikai a philanthropist and a Sierra Leonean who currently lives in the United States of America. The projects aimed at assisting deprived and vulnerable children in the country by providing them with better care, protection and education. During the end of the eleven years’ civil war that ravaged this country, the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Diseases and other natural its early years, Ms. Fatmata J. Kaikai self-help project had supported children of relatives and other family friends. She also provides livelihood support to families, empower youths including women and girls to acquire education and other vocational skills. Ms. Fatmata J. Kaikai saw people living in deplorable conditions in rural communities with lack of basic needs, children dropping out of schools, poor road network, unemployment, high maternal mortality rate etc. and that warranted take the bold step to start helping family and children. Before traveling abroad, Ms. Fatmata J. Kaikai was a nurse and a midwife who supported families and communities with treatment for minor illnesses, she gave medicines and also sensitized people to embracing family planning and long-term health and sanitation plan. In 2019, having committed to helping women and children, Ms. Fatmata J. Kaikai decided to establish a Non-Governmental Organization working to Alternative Care for children, Child Protection, Child Justice, Health, education and Agriculture. However, the outbreak of COVID 19 stalled the process and she had to commence with a Community Based Organization for an Interim Care Center wherein safe home facilities can be provided for orphans and other vulnerable children. Considering the fact that Interim Care Facilities is just a sect of child protection and that vulnerable and street children require a whole lots of other services to enable them to be stable and concentrate on their education, Ms. Fatmata J. Kaikai saw it as crucial in the chain and web of child protection because you cannot adequately protect a child in any form if that child is not sheltered in a stable home. The organization partnered with the former Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs and also entirely intend to work with Government and other international partners for effective coordination and service delivery. The Faith International Child Care will be a specialized Institution in the entire southern province that will address the perpetual problem of street child, child abuse and other child protection concerns.
